Building a Culture of Wellness in Schools through Wellness Policies
On December 19th, 2016, the Maryland State Department of Education, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, University of Maryland Extension, and Maryland State School Health Council will host their 2nd statewide school wellness conference. The conference will focus on the U.S. Department of Agriculture Local School Wellness Policy Final Rule. Experts will share researched based implementation strategies as well as tools and resources for policy revision. The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Model will be highlighted as a tool to build a culture of wellness in schools.
On December 7, 2016, the University of Maryland School of Medicine held a press conference at a Baltimore City school to announce Dr. Hager's new USDA award and to celebrate our ongoing project, Healthiest Maryland Schools. To learn more about the USDA grant, see the Baltimore Sun's article.
